If you decide to use ChatGPT or other Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, make sure to check with your instructor if you can do so, and if so what exactly is permitted for a specific assignment. Make sure to cite the information you use in the text and in the reference list.
Weaknesses of using AI for research:
The Modern Language Association (MLA) Style is commonly used for writing papers and citing references for scholarly publication. It is used particularly in fields of the humanities such as literature, languages and cultural studies.
American Psychological Association (APA) Style is commonly used for citing references in science and social science courses, such as Nursing, Psychology, Education, and Social Work.
APA Style entails not only crediting sources in a particular format but also writing clearly, concisely, and without bias.
If you choose to use ChatGPT or some other AI technology for writing, be sure you are transparent about your use of it with your teachers. Rules for citing ChatGPT are not yet fully established. It has been recommended that the information is cited similar to a personal communication of some kind (emails, phone conversations, text messages, etc.) Cite the communicator's name, the phrase "personal communication," and the date of the communication in your text only" for APA style.
