Banned Books Week 2019: Home

When is Banned Books Week?

What is Banned Books Week?

Established in 1982, Banned Books Week grew out of a reaction to a number of challenges made against books in schools, bookstores, and libraries. The American Library Association (ALA), in conjunction with a coalition of organizations now hold this annual event during the last week of September. The week is set aside as a celebration of the right to read as well as highlighting the dangers of censorship and the damages it can bring.
