LOUIS update as of 07/05/2011

Many great things has happened since our last update. 

Michael L. Jackson

 Representative Michael L. Jackson has made a resolution in support of LOUIS! See the full text here, and here a quote:

Directs that the Board of Regents restore its funding of LOUIS, the La. Library Network, to at least the percentage provided for in FY 2009-2010 and expresses support for LOUIS as a critical component of the success of the state's public postsecondary education institutions.

The timeline of HCR 129:

June 8, 2011 - Rep. Michael Jackson and LOUIS Exec. Director Sara Zimmerman discussing HCR 129 with the House Education Committee. 

June 13, 2011 - HR 129 was heard today before the House Committee on Appropriations, and they talked about it for about 30 minutes. It passed and will be voted on by the whole of the House. HCR 129 now heads to the floor of the House for a vote.

June 21, 2011 - The House, without objection, passed House Concurrent Resolution 129. Here is the video, from about 3:40pm today, if you missed it:

June 23, 2011 -The Senate adopted HCR 129-- Here's the video.

June 23, 2011 - While the Senate was looking at HCR 129, the Louisiana Board of Regents was meeting and talking about various things, including HCR 129 and the status of LOUIS and its funding. Here's a clip of that, at about 3 1/2 minutes:

From the LOUIS Exec. Director Sara Zimmerman "Rep Jackson's resolution, while amended, was successful. The end result are solutions for 3 goals that we had going into 10-11.
           
            Goal 1. Funding for 11-12.
            Goal 2. Put LOUIS on everyone's radar
            Goal 3. Help insure LOUIS has sustainable funding into the future
